GoDaddy also advertised during the 2010 Super Bowl XLIV, purchasing two spots.[68] The commercials "Spa" and "News" starred GoDaddy Girl and racecar driver Danica Patrick. In "Spa," Patrick is getting a lavish massage when the masseuse breaks into a spontaneous GoDaddy Girl audition.[69] In "News", anchors conduct a 'gotcha' interview with GoDaddy Girl Danica Patrick about commercials known for being too hot for television.[70] According to Akamai, there was a large spike in Internet traffic late in the fourth quarter of the game. This spike was tied to GoDaddy's "News" advertisement airing. CEO Bob Parsons said GoDaddy received "a tremendous surge in Web traffic, sustained the spike, converted new customers and shot overall sales off the chart".[71][72]
On January 24, 2007, GoDaddy deactivated the domain of computer security site Seclists.org, taking 250,000 pages of security content offline.[103] The shutdown resulted from a complaint from MySpace to GoDaddy regarding 56,000 user names and passwords posted a week earlier to the full-disclosure mailing list and archived on the Seclists.org site as well as many other websites. Seclists.org administrator Gordon Lyon, who goes by the handle "Fyodor", provided logs to CNET News.com showing GoDaddy de-activated the domain 52 seconds after leaving him a voicemail and he had to go to great lengths to get the site reactivated. GoDaddy general counsel Christine Jones stated that GoDaddy's terms of service "reserves the right to terminate your access to the services at any time, without notice, for any reason whatsoever."[104] The site seclists.org is now hosted with Linode. The suspension of seclists.org led Lyon to create NoDaddy.com,[105] a consumer activist website where dissatisfied GoDaddy customers and whistleblowers from GoDaddy's staff share their experiences.[8][106] On July 12, 2011, an article in The Register reported that, shortly after Bob Parsons' sale of GoDaddy, the company purchased gripe site No Daddy. The site had returned a top 5 result on Google for a search for GoDaddy.[107][108]

But this situation depends on the kindness of the domain purchaser. They hold all the cards. After they purchase the domain, their contact details can be accessed via the WHOIS database. You can contact them and ask for the domain name back. But it is entirely up to them whether they decide to help you out or not. They may ask for a lot of money, or just flat out refuse to return it. That’s why you should make sure you renew your domain name early (or renew for multiple years) so that you never have to be in this situation.
In 2009 GoDaddy donated $50,000 to the Lincoln Family Downtown YMCA in Arizona when the organization requested only $1,000.[89] In December 2009 at GoDaddy's annual Holiday Party, Executive Chairman and Founder Bob Parsons and Danica Patrick announced that GoDaddy would be donating $500,000 to the Phoenix-based UMOM New Day Center to fund the Danica Patrick GoDaddy.com Domestic Violence Center.[90]

Kevin – I like to renew for as long as possible. As in: 5 years. It doesn’t cost that much to renew a domain name for that amount, for example. It also forces me into commitment. If I don’t really try to make this website work, I will lose money. And I’ll continue to lose money for 5 years. I like to use tricks like that to force me into action. And you can also use good promotional offers to lock in savings for multiple years. It just makes financial sense.
When I complained they said they would do it for $40.00. I truly believe that I have been scammed and it seems to me that they took down my site so they could charge me more money to put it back. I had to do all the work to get the site back up and after spending over an hour trying to get my domain verified and having Nathan, a supervisor, tell me that he had no problem doing his own site and could not help he told me that I was having the problem because something was wrong on their end. They had many calls about the same issue.
Hence to market Web hosting products to masses, these hosting companies offer the higher discount for first billing term and provide web hosting for as low as $1 per month along with free domain and dozens of add-ons. Also, they offer high commissions to paid endorsers for the sales via them. So this is a definite loss to the companies and hence to overcome they do not provide the discount for second billing term.
DNS by nature can take 24-48 hours to fully propagate across the entire internet, though we generally see much quicker propagation. GoDaddy has each Time to Live setting for each record set to 1 hour. Depending on when that last hourly check was, you should see your changes go live in an hour or less. If you’d like to speed things up, you can select a shorter TTL value, but make sure to do that at least an hour or more BEFORE you edit the rest of your records.
I recently agreed to have GoDaddy restructure my web page. I should have known better when they made me pay up front for the service. After spending a significant and detailed amount of time explaining the essence of our work and specifying precisely which content CANNOT be continued in the new version, I received a presentation piece I can only say was written by a first year high school student masquerading as a marketing professional. If it weren't for the $1,600.00+ dollars at stake I would find it humorous. It seems GoDaddy is hiring kids to perform the work of a professional, paying them the usual chump change, and passing this off as first rate craft. Then they want to rewrite what they didn't understand the first time...so guess what. Now, you the customer, will have to spoon feed every morsel of data to someone who has no understanding of or interest in your business. At this point you can get 30% back or roll the dice and let them redo for all the money. So now "Who's The Moron?" Now I'm looking for another web provider and they will eventually loose more money than the $1,600.00 they stole. Hopefully, the word will get out and other buyers will beware. Hats off to Matt at GoDaddy...nice work!
GoDaddy User Reviews – Kind of a mixed bag here, some people really love their products and support team and other people have not had as good of an experience. Full disclosure: we’ve used GoDaddy for almost 10 years for both domain registration and hosting and have always been happy with the service, although we’ve never had reason to call their customer support line so we can’t speak to that.
